Safety and Comfort
In
the hands of a trained practitioner, acupuncture therapy is remarkably
safe and comfortable.
The
National Institutes of Health cited the remarkable safety of
acupuncture compared to drugs or other medical procedures in
its 1997 recommendation. I work only with single-use disposable
needles, eliminating the risk of disease transmission.
The
acupuncture experience bears nearly no resemblance to receiving
an injection. Acupuncture needles are solid, flexible, and
hair thin, unlike the overly-familiar hollow,
thicker hypodermic needles that frighten many people. You will
feel minimal discomfort with acupuncture needle insertion.
Sometimes
one might experience a sensation of heaviness, energy, or aching
once
the needles
are set.
Often acupuncturists combine techniques like heat and/or gentle
massage to increase not only the effectiveness but he relaxaton of the
experience.
Moreover,
I have studied Korean Hand Therapy which has some very effective
non-needle qi-based treatments to improve health and quickly
relieve pain.
Patients
will find treatment to be very relaxing, and many even fall
asleep during a session.
